Puzzle 3

This rather odd position arose in a game. What were the
last three moves (in other words: what were the last three
moves by White and the last three moves by Black = six half-moves?).
John Nunn
The above is a a problem involving "retrograde analysis",
which sounds daunting, but is it a very enjoyable form of
recreational chess, often requiring humour and lateral thinking.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept you can read about
it here.
The solutions to all puzzles will be
published at the end of the week (after January 1st).
Some clues and feedback may be published during our Christmas
puzzle week.
