Morozevich wins Petrov Memorial + CBM training by Karsten Müller

3/4/2012 – The Vladimir Petrov Memorial took place in Jurmala, Latvia, as a tribute to one of the brightest representatives of Latvian Chess, who tragically died in Soviet camps during WWII. The event started with a Qualifier (Feb. 16-17) and a Final (Feb. 18-19), which was won by Alexander Morozevich. The Vladimir Petrov Memorial took place in Jurmala, Latvia, from February 15th-20th, 2012, and paid tribute to one of the brightest representatives of Latvian Chess, who tragically died in Soviet camps during the Second World War. The event started with a Qualifier (Feb. 16-17) and a Final (Feb. 18-19). The latter was held in the Amber Beach Resort in Jaunkemeri. It featured eight players: four Super GMs by invitation and the top four from the qualifier. The Super GMs were Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), Alexander Morozevich (Russia), Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbajan) and Alexei Shirov, who as of January 1, 2012 has been representing Latvia.

The time controls were 15 minutes plus six seconds per move. the prizes for the final were: 1st: €1250, 2nd: €825, 3rd: €600, 4th: €400, 5th: €300, 6th: €250 7th €225, 8th €200, for the total of €4050.


Alexander Morozevich won the final section 5.0/7, ahead of Alexei Shirov and Igor Kovalenko:
