Deep Shredder vs Petr Kiriakov

The Russian junior champion Petr Kiriakov, Elo 2555, lost the first game against Deep Shredder on the Playchess server. The event was conducted by Martin Müller ("Smurskie" to the Playchess crowd), who has been playing his dual PIII 2 x 1 GHz computer (Diversimex, 1.5 GB RAM, 500 GB hard disk, Windows XP) against a whole pride of GMs. His most recent opponent: Alexey Dreev, who's game ended in an exciting draw.

The second game was full of excitement. While we were fiddling around with our Flash transmission the Russian junior champion was creating magic against Deep Shredder. First the computer look very secure, but then with hundreds of people from all over the world watching Kiriakov turned tables and won the game with the black pieces.

The dress rehersal for the internet coverage of Kramnik vs Deep Fritz was a success. Our Flash client grabbed the moves that were played on the Playchess server and displayed them for visitors who wanted to watch with a plain vanilla browser.

This is what the game looked like in the flash client replay (Kiriakov has the handle "Petrovich" on the Playchess server).

So the overall score between Shredder and Kiriakov is now 1-1. You can replay or download both games here.

The first game between GM Kiriakov and Deep Shredder took place on Saturday (21.9.2002), the second games is scheduled for Freitag, September 27 at 20:00 h CET (19:00 London, 2 p.m. NY). The playing speed is 120 min for the entire game with a 10 sec increment per move.

There was a contest to predict the correct result of this encounter. The winner will get a Shredder 6 program which has been autographed by the author Stefan Meyer-Kahlen and the Swiss national team.

Shredder played against the Swiss team at the end of July and won 3:1 (report).
