This tournament, which is being played under standard time controls, is noteworthy because of the participation of the 12th world champion Anatoly Karpov, who at the age of 56 has come out of retirement, so to speak, to give it another shot.
After four rounds he was doing quite well, having drawin three and won one, a lively Nimzo agains Kiril Georgiev. He drew against Atalik and Ivanisevic, who are currently both sharing first with Karpov at 2.5/4 points.
The Serbian National Broadcast is providing daily 30-minute coverage of the Gorenje 2007 tournament. The first show featured Mr. Luka Acimovic, chairman of the chess club VSK Sveti Nikolaj, Mr. Ivan Zivanovic, director of Gorenje Srbija, and GM Michael Roiz, who is participating in the tournament.

The Dutch Championships is under way in Hilversum, Holland, from June 16th to 28th. It is a round robin tournament with 12 players. In the first round, played on Saturday, June 16, there were four white wins, by Ivan Sokolov, Edwin L'Ami, Jan Smeets and Frisor Nijbour.
There is also a Women's Championship starting on June 18, a round robin with ten players. There will also be a strong open in Hilversum from June 20th-28th 2007.

The AeroSvit 2007 tournament is taking place in the Yalta area settlement of Foros, from June 17–30, 2007. Average rating of the 12 participants: 2693.6. There will be eleven rounds of play and one free day. The time controls are 120 minutes per player for the entire game, with an increment of 30 sec. after every move, starting from the first move.

The Chess Meeting starts on June 23 in the State Theatre in Dortmund, Germany. Eight grandmasters are participating in this prestigious round robin event, which will achieve a category of 19 or 20. Five of the eight participants are in the top ten in the world. This includes world champion Vladimir Kramnik, who will defend his victory in last year's Chess Meeting. Also in the field is the world's number one ranked player Vishy Anand, who won the event in 2004.
The other participants are world number four ranking grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, 21, of Azerbaijan; Peter Leko of Hungary, ranked number six in the world; GM Boris Gelfand of Israel, number ten in the world. In addition we have German Champion Arkadij Naiditsch, who won the event in 2005 at the age of 19; Magnus Carlsen, the 16-year-old prodigy from Norway; and the winner of the Aeroflot Open Evgeny Alekseev

The 20th Ciudad de León chess tournament will be held from 4th to 9th July 2007, with four World Champions taking part: Viswanathan Anand, current number 1 in the FIDE ratings, Veselin Topalov, second in the FIDE list, Ruslan Ponomariov and Rustam Kasimdzhanov.
There will be two semi-finals, played on Friday and Saturday July 6 and 7, with the two winners playing the final on Sunday July 8th. The semi-finals and final will consist in four games each. All games will be played at a rate of 20 minutes for the whole game, with an increment of 10 seconds after each move. In case of a final draw, there will be a tie-break in form of blitz games (5 minutes for each player).
During the event former world champion Boris Spassky will give a press conference about his match against Bobby Fischer.
