7/26/2006 – The hard-fought 3rd Amsterdam Chess Tournament ended in a three-way tie for first. The winner on tiebreak points (and performance) was Dutch GM Sergey Tiviakov, followed by Sergey Erenburg, Israel, and Friso Nijboer, Netherlands. Splendid foto report by Frits Agterdenbos.

The 3rd Amsterdam Chess Tournament was held from July 15th to 23rd, 2006 in the Speellocatie Studenten sportcentrum USC, Amsterdam Buitenveldert, Netherlands. The 446 player Swiss tournament (9 rounds) was held in four groups (A, B, C and D). The A group (Elo > 2225, first prize 3500 euro) has attracted 86 participants including 14 GMs and 22 IMs.

Final report

Grandmasters Sergey Tiviakov, Sergey Erenburg and Friso Nijboer shared first on 7/9, with Tiviakov winning out on tiebreak points. Looking at pure perfornamce we see that Tiviakov, due to the opposition he faced, played like a 2716 GM, Erenburg at 2628 and Nijboer at 2620.
