Thirteenth Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament

This event runs from April 15 to 24 and is being held in two stages: the first five rounds are being played in Malmo, the four final rounds will be in Copenhagen. Top players are Hikaru Nakamura (USA 2657), Krishnan Sasikiran (IND 2642), Curt Hansen (DEN 2633), Viorel Iordachescu (MDA 2609), and Jan Timman (NED 2607).

After six rounds the Dutch chess legend Jan Timman (picture) is sensationally in the lead, with a 2820 performance, half a point ahead of Hikaru Nakamura, with Hansen and Sasikiran trailing half a point behind the American upstart. There are live games, results, tables, a few pictures and reports on the tournament's web site. The games can also be watched live on the Playchess.com server, where as we "go into print" there is quite a commotion, since Hikaru Nakamura has played 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5 against Krishnan Sasikiran. After 2...Nc6 the US champion played 3.Bc4, but India's second strongest player saw the mate threat on f7 and played 3...g6.
