The qualifiers for the 57th Russian Chess Championship is taking place from
May 20 to 31 May in Saint-Petersburg and Tomsk. Participants include Vladimir
Malakhov, Alexey Dreev, Sergey Rublevsky, Alexander Khalifman and others. The
prize fund is US $50,000. The winners are expected to join Garry Kasparov,
Vladimir Kramnik, Anatoly Karpov, Peter Svidler, Evgeny Bareev, Alexander Grischuk
and Alexander Morozevich in a Super-final in Moscow in September. There the
prize fund will be $300,000.
Russian Championship qualifier in St Petersburg
The qualification tournament is being staged by the Chess Federation of St.
Petersburg and it’s president Alexey Ustaev. Ustaev is also the President
of Viking Bank, the main sponsor of the event.
